RIVERSIDE VEGETATION

Index card

Introduction

On the banks of the river there is typical riverside vegetation, normally comprising deciduous trees which prefer soil with a high groundwater level, thanks to their need for abundant water and their ability to tolerate temporary flooding. These woods have many ash trees, silver poplars and elms, among others. All three of these species are present in this short stretch of river leading to La Gola. On this stretch the riverbank woodland occupies a very narrow and virtually token strip.

Further on, where salinity increases, there is French tamarisk and common reed.
