Introduction
As you have probably noticed, it gets gradually harder and harder to pedal and your progress slows. You are in a forest of Aleppo pine and stone pine, but what explains your slower progress is that the forest is growing on sand. It is a coastal pine wood formed on sand. These pines and the vegetation accompanying them have helped stabilise the dunes. Although it may not seem like it at first sight, if the dunes are not stabilised, they gradually shift and move and can bury any structure in their path. It should be noted that they are ecosystems of great environmental value and natural interest and so it is important to conserve them.
