Introduction
Roca's cherries are a typical crop of Arenys de Munt, they came about 120 years ago by the hand of two brothers, who took two 2 gills (cuttings) of a variety that they had found in a farmhouse where they were working.
Based on grafting, this crop was scattered throughout the town and, since this class was not known to anyone, they called it Roca’s Cherry, in honor of the surname of its introducers.
Quickly the demand for this new variety grew, and in the 60’s-80’s there were tons of cherry. The cherry plantations (Prunus avium) of the Roca variety were scattered throughout various areas of the municipality, such as the bottom of Can Rossell and the rivers of Can Cornell, Serra d'en Sala and Serra dels Termes.
There are still 22 cherry producers in the municipality, but there is a progressive abandonment of the farms of these fruit trees, in such a way that there are some parcels with cherries that are abandoned. On the 24th of June, the Cherry Fair is held in Arenys de Munt.
