Cemetery and chapel of Sant Sebastià

Index card

Introduction

The grounds of the Municipal Cemetery were built between 1863 and 1871.

The main door is a portal with a molded cornice arch vault and some funerary elements stand out inside. The first mausoleum, near the entrance, corresponds to that of the Sala family, a historicist construction from the beginning of the 20th century. The pantheon, specifically that of the Ordeig family, from 1917, is the work of the architect Bassegoda i Amigó. Also of note is the mausoleum of the architect Josep Domènech Estapa, very possibly designed by him, which was built with cobblestones, pilasters in the corners and covered with a stepped conical dome.

The chapel of Sant Sebastià is on the same Camí d'Agell, a short distance away and was built in 1507 during an important episode of the plague epidemic and rebuilt in 2001 as it was burned down during the civil war. This hermitage, of small dimensions, presents a perfect symmetry of the facade with a bell tower that crowns it and below it, and above the door with a semi-domed arch, we have a neo-Gothic window in the form of a rose.
