Shade plane trees and temporary wetlands

Index card

Introduction

We have reached the shady plane trees of Els Abaus, next to the bed of the stream. Although the most abundant tree is the plane tree, you can also find some isolated examples of other riverside species, such as the silver poplar. The shade plane tree is a hybrid species that was planted to make use of its wood, which is soft but highly valued for certain specific uses. Over time, the shade plane trees that can be seen in this place have acquired a wilder appearance, so that walking here can be difficult due to the thickness of the other plant species with which it coexists, making it an interesting refuge for fowl and other species that look for places with a certain humidity. In fact, during the rainy season, small wetlands can form within the thicket of these shady plane trees, which are very interesting for biodiversity.
