Introduction
We are located on the promenade of Santa Caterina, opposite the Margarideta fountain included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. Out of the 20 fountains cataloged in the municipality of Ribes de Freser, it is perhaps the most prominent and also the most popular. Many of its inhabitants consider that it has properties which can be beneficial for the health of people. |
It is said that the Golluts de Ribes (singular characters that we will know on this route) were only allowed to drink water from this fountain. It was popular belief that the deformations of the throat (gulls) of these characters were caused by the water in the area (little iodine). They only drank from this fountain because they thought that their waters did not come close, and therefore they did not have iodine scarcity. |
