Introduction

We are at an altitude of 2,100 m, at the lower limit of the alpine stage of grassy meadows and the upper limit of the subalpine stage of black pine forest.
The north-facing slopes are often more wooded than the sunny slopes. These forests, at lower altitudes, have been cleared to favor the formation of pasture meadows.

Along with the black pine, there are accompanying shrubs. In this case, we find the dwarf juniper (foto), with prickly leaves that, at lower altitudes, is a fairly large shrub; and the beautiful heather or "Calluna", a small shrub from the heather family (Ericaceae). (foto)
