Introduction
This is one of the Montgrí Massif’s natural pine groves. Pine groves are practically the only forest formation in the area. Three types of pine grove can be seen depending on their origin: natural pine groves, old repopulations and recent repopulations.
The natural pine groves in the Montgrí Massif are mainly found on the coastal side of the Muntanya Gran. These pine groves comprise small groups of Aleppo pine on the most shaded faces, and in this case taking advantage of the humidity of the gully which you are walking alongside. Individual examples rarely exceed 3-4 metres in height and are generally shrubby in shape.
Other plants found in this area include common smilax, wild olives, Mediterranean buckthorn, kermes oak, mastic and honeysuckle.
