Introduction
Three different types of pine grove are found in the Montgrí Massif: naturally occurring Aleppo pine groves, which are mainly found on the maritime face of the Muntanya Gran; the old pine groves which cover the inland dunes, planted at the start of the twentieth century to stabilise the dunes; and newer repopulation pine groves, started around 25 years ago.
In this case, it is a recent replanting which covers old vineyards. These are now abandoned but it is still possible to see the stone banks that separated the properties. This is a record of the traditional economy of the seafarers who combined fishing with agriculture.
