Cisalla de Roses

Index card

Introduction

The coastal strip between the Lighthouse of Roses and the Cala de Canyelles Petites includes one of the best geological structures associated with the location of a granitoid: the Cisalla de Roses (Secateurs of Roses).

The cisalla are bands of deformation that relate to movements produced millions of years ago. These movements have been recorded in the rocks in the form of bands of intensely foliated granite that flank dykes of rocks that have been truncated and displaced.

This stretch is also notable for the presence of numerous forms of erosion in granite rocks, a consequence of the erosive action of the sea and the wind.
