Introduction
The Lighthouse of Roses is on the Punta de la Poncella, a place dominated by Puig Rom and the old Trinitat Castle. It occupies the area where an old military coastal detachment had been, the Sant Antoni artillery battery.
The construction of the lighthouse in 1864, forms part of a general lighting plan for the coast and ports that was carried out during the reign of Isabel II. Initially, it was lit with oil, later it worked on paraffin and then oil was used to fuel it. In 1921 the lighthouse was electrified with a 500 watt incandescent lamp.
