Pujada al Costabona. Setcases. Collada Fonda

Introduction

Throughout the way up we will discover three types of clearly differentiated rocks.
Here on the rocks of Mercè we find these schists together. They are rocks formed originally by clays or slimes, which have been subjected to strong pressures and temperatures (metamorphic rocks).
Above, by Soms' white rock, we find a strip of sandstones combined with carbonated rocks. This is where you will find the most important part of the route, formed by a "skarn". These rocks have been in contact with igneous intrusions by experiencing thermal processes that have transformed some of their minerals. The Costabona skarns had been commercially exploited in the 1950s, to obtain tungsten. If you look to the other side, you will see the entrance to the Fra Juan mine. And if we left to the right, towards the Solaneta, we would find the mines of Costabona.
Getting to the top we can find metamorphic rocks such as filets and gneiss, and also the granodiorites that are igneous rocks (formed from the slow cooling of the magma), similar to granite.
