Introduction

Sant Andreu de Llavaneres became an important summer destination and second home, taking advantage of the privileged location of our town near the sea and the mountains. These families enjoyed a long summer period of about three months.

La Sala Matas (The Matas Room) was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Matas, a family from Barcelona, originally from the town and dedicated to the textile industry.

The heart of the town used to practice in the Sala, and other events also took place there such as theatrical performances and the Floral Games organized by the Matas and Masriera families in 1918.

The Matas family had a strong friendship with the Masriera family (a family of modernist painters and artists), and they shared a love for theater.

It was mainly used by the colony of vacationers and plays written, directed and interpreted by the Masriera family together with other vacationers.

In 1915 the play ¡Viva Llavaneras! was performed, in which the characters of Llavaneres were joked about. Apparently, the people of the town thought they were being mocked and the Masriera family had to make a clarification in the play's libretto.
