Description
The arcaded houses were part of the nucleus of the town in Sant Pere d'Octavià. Next to it, where the municipal market is currently located, was the parish church of the town, dedicated to Saint Peter.
In the adjacent streets, some of the oldest buildings in the city have been preserved.
Like other 14th century villages, the arcades made it possible to take advantage of the building height as a living space, and to maintain public space at street level. The arcades were a place of passage, a shelter for market stalls and an occasional meeting place for villagers.
This space is popularly known as « Les Voltes ».
