Description

(12th – 20th century)

Take a stroll through the narrow, uneven streets of the center around the church, filled with restaurants and small shops exuding Mediterranean charm. Visiting Santa Maria Church reveals an ancient temple from 1796, with preserved apse, transept, and dome. The rest, including the nave, side chapels, and facade, showcases neo-classical works from 1853 by architect Martí Sureda i Deulovol. In Plaça de Catalunya, Modernist architecture like Casa Mallol (present Town Hall) awaits. Between Trinitat and Escorxadors streets lies Plaça de la Pau, dedicated to the historical memory of the Spanish Civil War, featuring a sculpture by artist Ció Abellí and an air-raid shelter from 1937-1938.
