Description

Ses Nou Sardanes is a typical local dance, preceding the sardana, as it is now known, that commemorates a local legend according to which, the Mare de Déu dels Socors rushed following the demon that was taking to hell Xixanet, an inhabitant from Tossa.

It is a popular dance that alternates new short sardanas with the “Toquen a Córrer”, a kind of gallop in which, traditionally, two girls or women are going to take a dancer and, getting together forming groups of three, they run jumping up and down the rhythm of music, throughout the Socors street, until the orchestra stops, and starts a new sardana again. This is repeated up to nine times. The dance ends with a waltz.
