Introduction
The Rec del Ter Vell irrigates the area of market gardens of Torroella as it flows towards l’Estartit. It has this name because it was the route of the old mouth of the Ter.
The Rec Vell flows into the area of marshes known as the Ter Vell in l'Estartit. This is a wet area comprising a number of marshes and fresh water lagoons fed by irrigation run-off from the agricultural plain and by rain water.
Irrigation systems have existed in the Baix Ter area since ancient times. These channels meet the need to supply the mills and were built in the seventeenth century by the counts of Solterra.
