Introduction

The Torre Begura is a fortified farmhouse with a square defence tower. It was built to defend against attacks by Ottoman and Berber pirates. The tower has a machicolation on each face, several loopholes and four gargoyles.

In the fields opposite you can see many birds that can be found among the crops. The bee-eater is especially notable as it is a very striking bird with multi-coloured plumage. It has a brownish head with a black stripe around its eye, a yellow neck, a green-blue chest and brown and green wings. Its beak is long and black. It hunts bees, wasps, dragonflies and small beetles on the wing. They fly in groups which soar tirelessly to catch their prey.
