Forest fire

As the display sadly notes, there was a fire in these mountains on 19 June 2001. The fire burned unstoppably for 10 hours, consuming 376 hectares. To give you an idea, the area burnt is similar to the area of over 376 football pitches. Much vegetation was burnt that will take many years to return to its condition before the fire. Since that year, and also as a result of the fire of 2004 in another part of the Montgrí, firefighters have carried out controlled burns to ensure a disastrous situation like the ones from 2001 and 2004 does not happen again.
