Introduction
Wherever you look in front of you, there is sand accompanied by vegetation. Dune or psammophyte vegetation is adapted to living in the sand and is usually adapted to conditions with high salinity. As the plants on coastal dunes are very exposed to harsh weather such like winds and man-made problems like footsteps, they are low in stature and comprise a very small number of highly specialised species, and so are not found anywhere other than these coastal environments. The herbaceous species found here include European beachgrass, sea daffodil, Stachys maritima, sea spurge, sea medick and others.
