Introduction
The Ciutadella, or Citadel, is a Renaissance fortification. Beneath the ground in the enclosure is an archaeological site with a wide historical range, from the 4th century BC to the 19th century, with remains from the Greek, Roman and Visigothic periods. From medieval Roses there is the early medieval monastery of Santa Maria de Roses and the old medieval town.
