Introduction
In the past, the property of Can Bellsolell reached the beach on the left bank of the stream (the square’s field). It is an irregularly-shaped house with a defense tower, on the lower part of which there is a chapel with a Renaissance altarpiece dedicated to Sant Antoni Abat. In the time of the 1871 war the chapel became the chapel of the town, since the parish was used as a military barrack.
The Bellsolell is an old family of the town, the first news dates from the 10th century, and its lineage has continued over 700 years. The private archive that is kept in the farmhouse and contains the memories of five generations of heirs is of great importance.
The documents range from 1666 to 1838 and are a valuable testimony to the everyday life of the farmhouse and the whole village. You can find notes related to meteorology, crops, disputes with the church, descriptions of streams and other information, all of them of great anthropological and linguistic importance.
Behind the farmhouse is the Bellsolell hill that was exploded to make the port of Arenys de Mar. The stone blocks were transported in freight cars that lowered by gravity to the coast, where they had to be braked.
