Introduction

We have seen different birch scraps. Perhaps this one that is at “Coll de l'Arç”, is one of the most beautiful landscapes. Its distribution seems to be the result of an English gardening project.

Birches, present in our country at higher levels or higher latitudes (Central European), reinforce the Atlantic nature of this environment. They are a bit invaders and here, they clearly occupy the place that corresponds to the beech trees. It is possible that mankind helped this presence with strong forestal pressure on the beech grove.

The pasture under the birch tree makes the straw stratum very poor and favors that there is a field of strawberry and fern aquiline. Natural of acidic sites, here it appears by the washing that the abundant rainwater does on these carbonated soils.
