Introduction
Among the trees that follow the torrent, poplars dominate. These fast-growing trees are often found in wetlands and close to riverbanks.
The oldest poplars in the area have disappeared and the city council has been replacing them with young specimens.
Poplar wood is of poor quality. It is mainly used in the making of paper pulp, pallets, veneers and light furniture.
The poplars play a vital role stabilizing the riverbanks but also bringing shade to overly exposed areas.
In natural medicine, poplar resin substances was used to make balms to treat hemorrhoids. It is also brewed, as a herbal tea to treat bronchitis and headaches.
