Introduction
Rhinechis scalaris
Among the most interesting reptiles that we can see on the cliffs of Tavertet, we highlight the lamprey, the wall lizard, the Aesculapius snake, in damp and shady places, and the white snake, which we will talk about in more detail.
It is a very abundant snake, harmless and easy to identify because it has two parallel black stripes on its back. It can reach 180 cm in length although they usually do not exceed a meter and a half.
Despite being a terrestrial snake, it also climbs trees and bushes in search of bird nests. It usually feeds on mice, shrews, voles, etc... and adult specimens can catch young rabbits and rats.
Despite being harmless, it is very aggressive if you want to capture it, blowing and hissing loudly, even biting violently.
