Introduction
Acer campestre
This small deciduous tree usually grows near river gorges, along roads and often associated with oaks and firs. It likes cool soils and we find it almost always isolated or in small groups. It is often grown as a shade tree and also to form hedges.
Its wood is hard, compact, yellowish in color and highly valued in carpentry. It is mainly used to make furniture and tool handles. The tender leaves and shoots had been used to feed cattle.
It is also worth noting the beauty of the yellowish colors of its leaves before they fall in autumn.
