Introduction
Alongside the previously mentioned canya americana, another invasive species from South America can be observed here: herba de la pampa or plomalls (Cortaderia selloana).
Introduced as an ornamental plant in 1948, its use in campsites contributed to its spread. Well-drained, cool and deep soils are particularly favourable. Stream corridors provide ideal conditions for invasive plants.
Like most invasive species, it spreads rapidly, displacing native flora and limiting associated fauna, leading to a sharp decline in biodiversity.
In the Remolar-Filipines Natural Reserve it became a serious problem. Control measures combined mechanical removal with grazing until plant exhaustion and death.
