Invasive Plants

Index card

Introduction

Invasive plants are another major threat resulting from the abandonment of traditional land uses.

Here we find prickly pear and ailanthus, the latter being particularly dangerous due to its rapid colonisation capacity. A cottony scale insect helps control prickly pear by drying its pads.

Ailanthus is difficult to eradicate because it resprouts vigorously from its roots, causing biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation.
