Introduction

The dominant forest is an Aleppo pine woodland, dotted with stone pines. Oaks and holm oaks, scattered along the torrents, are still witnesses of the original vegetation.

This forest is the result of the abandonment of agriculture in the serra de Miramar and subsequent reforestation. Wildfires have made it difficult for this forest to evolve into the original holm oak woodland. These disturbances cause a setback in plant succession, returning to meadow or shrub stages (as you will see in the viewpoint area), which correspond to the early phases of this succession.

Along the route we can observe pines, holm oaks, small-leaved oaks, lentisk, rosemary, rockroses, heathers, aladierns… representatives of the Mediterranean forest.

This is a forest adapted to current drought conditions and to fires, as pines take advantage of fire to disperse their cones and many shrubs are able to resprout after fire.
