Introduction
In this stretch of forest you will see nest boxes on the pines. The area is an excellent place to see and hear the many birds that live here, from woodpeckers to golden orioles, including tits, blackbirds and treecreepers. These nest boxes are specific to tits, birds that nest in cavities in dead trees.
The great tit (Parus major) (photo) is the largest of the common tits, unmistakable by its black “tie” on the yellow breast. It lives together with the crested tit and the coal tit. Often moving together, they travel in groups up and down the tree canopies searching for insects and making a lot of noise. It nests in tree holes, but also in any kind of opening. Its diet consists of wild fruits, seeds and almost all kinds of insects.
