Introduction
Probably due to a past fire, the forest disappeared and ecological succession has led this eastern slope of Roca Bruna to develop into a tall and dense plant formation: maquis vegetation, here composed mainly of tree heather and strawberry trees.
The acidic soil favors the strong presence of this shrub: tree heather or briar-root heather, usually accompanied by strawberry trees and aladiernos.
Tree heather is a tall shrub, reaching up to 3 m in height, with small linear leaves (2–3 mm) and small whitish, bell-shaped flowers. It blooms very abundantly and produces sweet nectar in early spring (unlike winter heather, which is lower and has pink flowers in October). It is also known as pipe heather, as its rootstock is ideal for making smoking pipes.
In front of you stands the castle of Eramprunyà: keep going, there is still a short climb ahead.
