Ca n’Amat – Viladecans Museum

Index card

Introduction

The Ca n’Amat building, declared Local Cultural Heritage since 2005, is the main museum headquarters and occupies one of the most emblematic houses in Viladecans.

An old townhouse between walls, located in the historic district, retaining agrarian structures such as silos, vats, and a bread oven. The house consists of four bodies, built or renovated at different times: one part from the 18th century and the rest from the 19th century (1848–1867). It preserves all elements (furniture and utensils) that exemplify life in Viladecans during the 19th century.

The recent expansion and renovation of the museum, inaugurated in 2023, offers a highly dynamic experience. At the start, visitors enter an immersive room explaining the historical development of the town, from its origins to the present. This room presents some of the most significant historical objects: a mammoth tusk, Roman and medieval archaeological remains, and a reconstructed 19th-century kitchen.

The visit continues in the permanent exhibition “Viladecans al 1800”, which displays original furniture (18th to early 20th century) of the farmhouse. In this space, visitors can personalize the tour by choosing which member of the Amat family will act as their guide.

Admission is free. Opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–14:00 h, Tuesday and Thursday 16:30–19:30 h (closed Mondays and holidays; August reduced schedule: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–14:00 h). Visitors may leave bicycles in the nearby bike parking and enjoy the museum at ease.
