Introduction

This park/square is a meeting point for recreational and cultural activities. It features emerging elements and volumes that create differentiated spaces, including walls with climbing plants (bougainvillea, ivy, tecomarias, or bignonias) and a beautiful pergola with wisteria.

The central earth and grass mound features a row of thick-trunked trees called bellaombres. Other trees include elms and lindens.

The bellaombra tree is native to South America’s subtropical region. Its indigenous Guaraní name “ombú” means “beautiful shade.”

Female and male flowers are on separate trees. Fruits feed birds and are used for washing clothes; leaves have purgative and medicinal properties and are sometimes used in pranks with mate (Guaraní drink).

Trunks and branches have multiple uses; Argentine gauchos used ashes for healing wounds or as poultices for headaches and sunstroke.
