Introduction
The exploitation of cork from cork oak became a very important activity in the province of Girona between the XVIII and XIX centuries, mainly from the discovery of the monk Dom Pérignon of its properties for the manufacture of caps.
They made great fortunes with this business, demanded a lot of workmanship and paid well, even nowadays cork is exploited in the Gironès, and it is the Catalan province where we can find most hectares.
