Introduction

They are deciduous shrubs like the rest of the trees of these environments, and all of them need a lot of humidity to grow and we can find them both in flood plains and in the edges of rivers or flooded areas.

Among the most frequent inhabitants of this type of forest are poplars, ash trees, white willows and holm-oaks.

Alders are very important because they are in front of the water and with their deep roots they retain the earth protecting it from the water flow and its erosion.

Everywhere many alder trees have been cut to gain arable space, and unwillingly they have broken the defenses and erosion problems have begun that makes the river to eat margins and expanding its bed.
