Introduction

The banana trees rarely form extensive forests, since they are usually planted, such as the Devesa de Girona where there is a large area covered with them. We can find it growing spontaneously in riverside forests but they are the result of old asylum plantations. It was planted in cool places where they rapidly grew.

They have often been planted in strategic places to give shade, close to fountains, along the roads and especially in the cities and their streets.

In the northeast of Catalonia, exceptionally, it is considered a forest species that is used for wood, although softness is prized.

In cities, they are being replaced as they become too large and cause allergy problems.
