Introduction

You see there are plains of bare ground. If you inspect them, the earth is around a hole of considerable size. There are lots in this whole plain.
They are the "house" of the marmots. They are large-sized day rodents (up to 7 kg.) Live in these subalpine and alpine meadows, in sunny orientations and, if there are nearby rocky areas or rocks, it is better (they can hide). They live in colonies formed by several family groups. The colonies only meat during mating season.
Always alert, they stand upright and when they detect any danger they make an alarm whistle, easy to recognize, surely you will hear it at some point. In the summer they eat a lot, since in autumn and winter, the cold and lack of food take them to hibernate in the fall. They can live up to 15 years.
They entered Catalonia in the 1960s from populations introduced to the French side in 1948 from the Alps.
