Introduction

The old castle which overlooked the walled town of Palau-sator dates from at least the tenth century, as it is already recorded in documents from 994, although it is known that reformations and adjustments to make it suitable for use as a dwelling were carried out in the in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Some of the original elements, which were hidden over the centuries, have now been visually restored while maintaining its function as a private dwelling. From outside, its rectangular main tower stands out, one of the most important of its time in the region.

The rest of the network of streets in the walled town of Palau-sator preserves its appearance of years gone by very well, especially the gateway with a Gothic arch where the Torre de les Hores stands and the remains of the route of the old walls, which can still be recognised. It has been listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest as a whole.
