Introduction
Streams like the one you are crossing now, are a very interesting part of the orography of the agroforestry mosaic which is so typical of the landscape of the Empordanet plain.
This mosaic comprises three clearly different elements: crops, primarily cereal and fodder; woodland, which is in serious danger of reduction and fragmentation, mainly comprising pines often with holm oak undergrowth and some solitary oaks; and streams and torrents which criss-cross the low undulating ridges that flank them.
These streams, which are generally short and are dry for long periods, are nonetheless a valuable refuge for the birds that inhabit the Empordà plain. Therefore, if you are well hidden, have binoculars and sit down for a while, you will certainly see a few. Good luck and patience!
