Introduction
Mas la Vilanera is a fortified farmhouse which comprises a group of buildings from different periods. The defence tower, with its square floorplan, had the role of protecting the peasants from pirates, above all during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Alongside the Mas la Vilanera, you can see the remains of the old Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Vilanera, the materials from which were undoubtedly used to build the farmhouse.
