Introduction

This water mill dates back to the medieval period, when fiefs and feudal lords ruled, specifically the fourteenth century. At that time, it belonged to the Counts of Peralda. This channel irrigates the whole of the right bank of the river Ter from Serra de Daró to the beach at Pals. As it passes through the rice fields of Pals, the Rec del Molí creates a whole network of channels and ditches which make up a complex irrigation structure. The water from this channel was used to operate the seventeenth-century flour mill, built in a medieval fortification (possibly from the castle of Gualta) and traces of this fortification can be found in the Molí de Gualta. The Molí de Gualta is a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
