Introduction

To the left of the track, there is suddenly a more or less clear space where you can see the entrances to one of the area’s air raid shelters, specifically number 3.

You might ask yourself what air raid shelters are doing there in the middle of the fields. Here you will see that you have been crossing, and are still on the former site of the Republican airfield of Canet de la Tallada, albeit right on the edge, which was operational from 1938 during the Spanish Guerra Civil (1936–39).

And where we now in the municipality of Tallada d’Empordà, there are three air raid shelters relatively close to each other. They were used during the fascist army’s aerial bombardments of the area, which were intended to prevent the airfield being used.

This refuge is a small one, with a limited capacity, intended to protect the people who worked in the aerodrome’s control tower, the remains of which are very nearby among the vegetation, also on the left of the track. The entrances to the shelter are tortuous, on stairways which lead underground with ninety-degree corners.
