Introduction

Upupa epops

The hoopoe (photo) can easily be spotted and identified in the abandoned fields that surround the Mas la Vilanera from February until the autumn.

It can be seen eating on the ground, pecking and walking calmly in search of food, such as locusts, ants, crickets, caterpillars, spiders, worms and insect larvae.

It can easily be identified by its “hoop -hoop” call.
