Cala Rovira was also known as Platja dels Escalencs. As Josep Pla tells us in "La Costa Brava": "Some families of l'Escala had the habit of taking, when good weather came in, their boat, their family and their nets, and spreading all over the coast. They used to choose small coves sheltered with water, more or less near population centers.”
