Sauló

Index card

Introduction

One of the most visible geological phenomena in the area is the part of the subsoil, formed by a geological substrate of granites that, in certain environmental and hydrological conditions, decompose very easily, forming sauló, a type of very fertile sand, characteristic of this area. In fact, some accumulations can be found, although it is usually dragged by rains, rivers and even into the sea. The typical thick sand on the beaches of La Selva is nothing more than sauló that has been deposited as it is dragged by the water courses that come from the coastal mountain ranges.
