Introduction

Come on, let's go! Let's start the route on which many palaeontologists started to explore our palaeontological heritage. It was a real adventure in the past as the great palaeontologists set out on the train to Masquefa, and then had to walk the rest of the way.

The landscape you can see consists mainly of clay that was eroded over time by water from streams, making the ravines, gullies and torrents where palaeontologists work. This clay is also used nowadays for growing vines, cereals, olive, almond and hazelnut trees, as well as by the local ceramics industry.

But take note! Although you can see the horns or needles of Montserrat, don't forget that during the Miocene this mountain had not yet been eroded into the whimsical form it now has.
