Introduction
Pau didn't live by himself, you know! If we went back in time 12 million years, we would realise that Pau lived in woods of deciduous trees, like the maple, walnut tree, and the poplar, with willows by pools of water; and also evergreens, such as the laurel tree, which grew near meadows.
And of course, he didn't live alone! At this time, there was a great diversity of fauna, similar to that in subtropical climates. Pau lived together with water deer, beavers, elephants with four tusks, sabre-toothed cats, chalicotheria, giant tortoises, flying squirrels, and pandas.
The discovery of this species has enabled us to reconstruct the landscape. For example, the Chalicomys batalleri (beaver) shows us that there was water, and so does the Dorcatherium naui meini (water deer) that hid from predators in pools of water.
