Introduction
Here we find a space that brings together three major heritage treasures: the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Portal, the Gothic wayside cross, and the archaeological site.
The sanctuary, built in the 18th century over an old gateway of the medieval walls, combines Baroque and Neoclassical styles. Inside, a beautiful 14th-century Gothic image of the Virgin and Child is venerated, and popular festivities such as the Vot del Poble are celebrated.
At the centre of the square stands the wayside cross, a replica of a Gothic piece from 1497, finely carved with figures of saints.
And beneath your feet, the archaeological site hides the remains of an Iberian wall and an ancient Roman temple—a testament to more than two thousand years of history in Prats de Rei.
