Introduction

The Roman oven, used to bake amphorae of wine destined for export throughout the Roman Empire, is well preserved. Built over abandoned houses in the 1st century BC, the production center included deposits, a working area, and the oven, where amphorae were made, as well as other vessels such as dolias (jars), common ceramics, and finer vessels. It retains the grill, almost intact, and the combustion chamber under a vault with two passages for stacking firewood. Numerous remnants of burnt ceramics have been found around it, indicating flaws in the baking of amphorae and other objects.
