Introduction

On our right, in this corner of the park, we can see several imposing trees: these are mulberries (Morus alba). The mulberry is a tree of Asian origin , although it has been grown here for many centuries.

Its fruit is white, pink or, less often, purple or black, and tastes sweet.

Its leaves were used in autumn to feed livestock, and its strong, durable wood was highly valued in carpentry.

In the past, the mulberry was the ornamental tree par excellence in our towns, planted in streets, squares and gardens. When ripe, the berries fell and made a mess on the ground, a problem gradually solved by heavy pruning and fruitless nursery varieties.

The leaves are the staple food of silkworms. Who hasn't kept some?
